Microsoft Office 365, which is free for schools, is an alternative to the “generic” LEA hosted email accounts. Office 365 has unlimited mailbox quantity and a 50GB mailbox limit.
You will continue to use Microsoft Outlook to access your emails and web-mail is available from any internet-connected device, or take your emails with you on your smartphone or tablet. All emails are scanned for viruses and filtered for spam.
The service also provides Lync, which is an instant messaging solution, allowing quick communication between all users on the system, as well as any other organisation using Lync. Audio, Video and file transfers are all supported.The Lync Desktop client comes with the Professional Plus edition of Microsoft Office.
SharePoint hosts Intranet pages and content. These can be discussion boards, file shares, shared lists such as a calendars, contacts and tasks, as well as collaboration using OneDrive and the Office WebApps.
All outgoing and incoming emails are encrypted by default during transfer and stored emails and files are encrypted in the cloud. Office 365 is accredited to hold or transact public sector data for business conducted at the OFFICIAL level of Security Classification and as such security is constantly being monitoring and improved.
Minecraft: Education Edition can be added to your subscription. It is an open-world game that promotes creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving in an immersive environment where the only limit is your imagination. More information can be found here.
Migration is charged at £40 per mailbox for existing accounts, £5 setup per additional staff or governor account and FREE setup of all student accounts.
